For many experienced travelers, finding a car rental that is both inexpensive and efficient is the ultimate challenge. Most of them are usually on tight budgets and choose to go for budget rental cars to save money. These budget rental cars advertise their services to be cheaper than that of major rental companies such as Hertz and Avis. Anyone would believe that they got a great deal when they selected these budget rental cars, only to find out in the end that it wasn't really much of a deal.
One of the reasons for this constant disappointment may be traced to the car rental industry itself. The car rental industry today is having trouble dealing with the complaints brought about by the additional cost that they charge their clients. These additional charges may be for fuel surcharges, localized taxes, insurance taxes and even for questionable repair charges. Most major car rental companies have a complaint desk or customer support for handling discrepancies in the additional charges. This is not necessarily true for budget car rentals. Disputes on the additional charges particularly on repair charges, due to dents or scratches, frequently arise. Without a proper forum to discuss these disputes, most often than not, clients can not do anything but pay the whole amount.
Another common problem encountered in getting the services of a budget car rental company is their inability to brief their clients regarding local traffic laws and regulations. Different countries implement different traffic rules as well as safety guidelines. Clients should at least expect these budget car rental vehicles to first comply with these rules and regulations, before they themselves follow the rules. Auto Insurance payment is another matter. Clients can not be assured that these budget rental cars will abide by local requirements when it comes to sufficient insurance coverage for their clients. And the high premium amount doesn’t help either. These budget rental cars, upon the payment of the insurance premiums, do not make clarifications with regard to their coverage and liability. This becomes another source of conflict for the client and the car rental service.
With all these things to consider, one should be very selective when it comes to getting budget rental cars. The available information over the internet should be utilized in order to compare the different budget car rental companies. Their cheap prices may be enticing in the beginning but when you consider the disadvantages, the more costly but reliable big car rental companies may be better after all.
