Is it best to take my Dell laptop XP 06 to Comp USA to get fixed and how much do you think I would be paying?

My laptop says that it can't read my Harddrive and all I did was set it on stand-by and put it in a carring case.... oh and I lost the CD that came with the laptop. What can I do?

Hello, I wouldn't go to CompUSA ,these people are not only very expensive, but their service is not great.

You may also like to push and hold the power button for several seconds and release it, if it shuts down the computer, turn it on normally, and see if it makes any difference.

I would suggest you to call your local computer shops and find out their hourly rate or check your local newspaper where private people offer their services for computer repair.

You can call Dell and ask them for their flat fee rate. Also keep one thing in your mind, if anyone gives you an estimate of $200 or above, you may like to look refurbished computer which may cost you $200 and up and ask for the warranty too. Some companies like Dell, when they sell refurbished computer, they offer you same amount of warranty what they offer for a new computer.

If you have lots of data, it would be very expensive to retrieve it.
