Okay...I need the help of someone mechanically inclined....?
My mother owns a 1995 Chevy S-10. The front drivers side tire is flat (tire is pretty much off the rim). I am trying to help her change the tire, but the problem is one of the lugs is a lock, and she has no key. the only opinion I know of at this point is to get a socket set, find one that fits, hammer it on and then try to muscle the lock off. I know *how* to do it, but I dont think I am going to have to strength to do it. So I have 2 questions really.
1- Is there another way to get the tire off?
2- Is there some trick that I can do to get more leverage to get the lug off. I am pretty sure that 115 pound, ice cream, donut eating me is not going to be able to do it alone.
Oh, and really I dont have the funds to hire a tow truck to take it to a shop. I already checked into that. Thanks everyone!
I doubt your idea to drive a socket on to the lug nut will work. I assume the outside is smother and round, so you probably won't be able to get any grip. Maybe you can try vise grips? Clamp them on as hard as you can, the smack the end w/ a hammer and it may break loose. You're going to trash the lug nut, and maybe the vice grips too, but it might work. Or, do you have a pipe wrench? That may work too, if enough of the nut is exposed to get a grip.
