I need help with a power steering pump pulley on my 93 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6?
I had to replace the power steering pump on my car and I got the pulley off with no problem with the special pulley puller tool and then I put the new pump on and I got the pulley on and all I have left is about a quarter of an inch left to put on but every bolt I use with the tool to put the pulley back on with ends of pulling back out of the shaft and the bottom of the bolt is smooth it tearing the threads off. What can I do to stop this and what is causing this? PLEASE HELP!!!!!
What's causing the problem is you are using the wrong size bolt or didn't have the right one screwed in far enough and have possibly damaged the threads to the point that no bolt will work. The problem with KIA's answer is that there is not a bolt that holds the pulley on, it is a press fit, as I'm sure you know. You are gonna have to find the right size thread tap and straighten the threads and then use the right size bolt to finish the job. I'm almost positive that pump uses a 3/8-16 UNC thread. Also check the depth of the threaded hole in the pump shaft and get one long enough to reach to the bottom
