What are tricks for removing a (rear) wheel from a 2007 BMW 525i?
I'm trying to remove the driver's-side rear wheel from my BMW 525i and having a lot of difficulty. Can you suggest any tricks to try? Just to make it clear, the car is sitting on a jack stand with the wheel/tire not touching the pavement. I've removed all of the lug nuts, but I am unable to pull the wheel off. From calling BMW, I've learned that this is a common problem. I think it has to do with the tire-pressure sensing system (?). I called my dealer's service dept. and talked with a mechanic there. He suggested spraying everywhere with penetrating oil/"liquid wrench", using a rubber mallet and lying on my back and kicking the tire, all of which I've tried and none of which worked. Any other ideas?
Yup you got to use some force. A car on a jack stand is more stable than one would think. I that case I get my leg under the car and kick the tire from behind and turn the wheel a little now and than. Do NOT spray anything into the hub area with the wheel studs not in the hub. You will ruin the friction quality of the parking brakes pads.
LOL funny I got a thumbs down. Today I got in a car where the guy sprayed on a penetrating oil to get his stuck wheel off only to discover his parking brake on his stick car won't hold the car from rolling. A new rotor and parking brake pads fixed it right up. And If you didn't know BMWs have a SECOND set of "pads" that are actually brake shoes for the parking brake.
