Submitting my work to an agent - is it worth getting them to return my work?
I'm just about to print off the first three chapters of my book to send it to an agent (again). Before I said there was no need to return the chapters and just enclosed a SAE for their reply. But now I'm wondering, if they do return the chapters, will they have put markings on them e.g. pointing out spelling errors and bits they don't like etc, for their own reference?
In which case, obviously if would be useful to have that returned to me.
Does anyone know if they do that?

Joss - I have checked through my work several million times. That wasn't what I was getting at all. I meant do the put markings on such as *wiggly line, don't like this paragraph* etc for their own personal reference. And so, when sending it back, I would get to see that
I am not sending work out with spelling mistakes in as such! But there are always one or two errors in anything, even publish books sometimes. Thanks for your answers
You're doing quite well if you get any response other than a straight "no" out of an agent. (They take a few more words than that to say it - "After careful consideration, we feel that your work is not something we feel sufficiently confident of placing with a publisher..." - but they say the same to almost everybody they reject, so you can't glean any feedback that's specific to your work.) As far as I'm aware, they don't usually bother to mark up something they're going to reject, unless it's *almost* good enough. They get so many submissions that aren't suitable that they want to plough through them as quickly as possible. A lot of submissions, they don't read past the first page. Some, they don't read past the first paragraph.
Why are you sending work out to agents with spelling mistakes in it? That severely harms your chances.
