what do i use to hone the cylinder walls in my engine?
i have an 1985 buick lesabre with an olds 307ci. the car burns oil like crazy...there are no leaks what-so-ever. as far as i know the cat. converter was clogged and cause my engine to run hot. i had the converter removed and dual exhaust installed..when driving i notice smoke from the rear of my car (more on the left bank then on the right)..i did a cylinder leakage test and from all the signs i can tell my rings are bad because i hear the air from the oil filler neck and dip-stick...ok now i am going to replace the rings but i was looking for a hone but i come up with the bottle brush type and the type with the stones....should i get both hones and use the one with the 3 stones to deglaze and the bottle brush type to get the crosshatch pattern back or what? thanks for any info.... i do have another motor in great condition i can put in there but this is my first big internal engine project so i'm just experimenting with it....
the bottle brush type is actually a better deglazer than the solid stones but it will also do an acceptable hone and is easier to use than the 3 stone configuration
