Is my air suspension ruined in my Town Car?
Just today I was walking to my front door and I noticed the rear wheel on the passenger sides suspension was about 2 - 3 inches higher than the rest of the wheels. I can fit my fist between the wheel and the panel. I tried turning the compressor off and back on but it didn't do anything. I never carried a heavy load in the car so I can't see where it came from.
Is this a serious problem? What should I do? And is it expensive?
The model I have is a 2002 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series.
Thanks.
May it possibly be the sensors?
There is only 1 height sensor for the rear suspension so it is more than likely not a sensor issue. You may have a leaking air spring on the other side, or some physical damage to the rear suspension. I tend to think you have a leaking air spring on the drivers side. These springs tend to leak at the bottom where the rubber rolls over the bottom of the spring when the rear moves up and down. You may not be able to see or hear the leak until the vehicle is off the ground. You could try spraying some soapy water on the air springs to find a leak. The rear air springs on Town Cars leak a lot. It is not uncommon for this to happen. You will more than likely find this to be the problem. Have both springs replaced at the same time. A leaking spring can cause the air compressor to burn up and those are not cheap. You can find the rear air springs at an after market parts store cheaper than the dealer. You could get a small shop to put them in. The labor to install them should be charged at about 1 hour. Anymore than that and they are charging you to much. Alldata time standard for that repair is .5 to 1 hour.
