why is the sandblaster surging and clogging?
Blasting away with a vacuum-draw sandblaster (sandblast cabinet), the sand comes out in surges. One instant you'll get plenty of sand, the next instant none. It's really hard to work with a piece, because you have to hold it aimed at a spot, wait for a surge, see if it did the job and go to the next. Very tedious.
Also it seems the suction pipe gets quite full of sand. It seems "clogged up" . I can blow it back out, and then the sandblaster works right for literally 2 seconds.
Checked for moisture problems, and my air is dry as can be. This is a suction gun, so the air never goes down the suction hose. The end of the hose is buried quite deep in the media, which is aluminum oxide.
I've used other sandblasters where it just blasted right along with smooth flow of media. Any ideas?
1. Is the AluOx perfectly dry? And I mean, all through....
2. Is the AluOx a suitable grain size for the blaster? It might be too coarse... jamming in the pickup, especially at the entrance.
3. If it's a rubber hose pickup, it could have internal damage.
4. Have you tried a shallower pickup point?
