Removal of headless metal screw?
While changing my license plate, one metal screw's head busted off, leaving the stem flush with the trunk's body. How do I get this screw out without expensive tools?
The other screw is intact, but rusted and stripped. What can I do for this one? Already tried WD40.
For the one with the head intact, but rusty, see if you can get a metal tool behind the tip of the screw,(on the other side of the body, where the screw tip comes out). A metal tool such as the side of a pair of Vise Grips, or some metal surface, that you can use to press against the tip of the screw, while twisting it in an out direction. (Some of this stuff is hard to EXPLAIN, but so easy to show someone!)
As for the one with the broken off head, see if there is enough of the tip to grab ahold of from the other side, and use Vise Grips,(handy tool, them Vise Grips!), to clamp on what tip is exposed and turn it out a little at a time. When the jaw touches the car, un-clamp the vise grips, and get another grip.
If none of this works, it's time for a center punch, and a drill, with the right size drill bit. If it's a little too big,(the hole afterwards), use a bigger sheet metal screw.
