Why is there gas in the oil of my motorcycle?
1985 Suzuki SP600, 4-stroke. I went to drain the oil, which has a 2.3L capacity. I had to stop draining when my gallon jug filled. After I noticed the odor of gasoline, i felt the oil and it was not the right viscosity, it was too thin. I'm guessing there were a couple liters of gas mixed in with the oil. The bike was running just prior to that, although it was blowing black smoke.
If your petcock is open (or if the vacuum shut-off is faulty) and your float needle is not sealing the jet, then gasoline can overfill the carburetor and run into the cylinder, past the piston rings and into the crankcase.
There may be debris in the gas that's obstructing the needle. If you drain the carb, it may clear, otherwise you need a little carb work. See to the petcock, too.
