Help DODGEMAN!!! My Dodge 2500 diesel won't start!!?!!?
Just replaced fuel lift/transfer pump on the 5.9L cummings diesel engine. Now won't start, only turn over. Fires if pump pedal like crazy only (know not supposed to do that). Where do I start trouble shooting? Ice or blockage in lines? Kink or blockage? Fuel filter? Little money to spend on it anymore, and patience is running out, as have been trying to fix this for quite awhile (dropped push-rod into engine from old pump and had to hoist engine up to remove pan to get it....ugghh!) Need this truck for second vehicle really bad, but just don't know where to look first. You helped me before Dodgeman, I'm sure you'll help me again. Thank you.
ok for starters on a diesel pumping the pedal is not necessary because the governor in the injection pump is set to full fuel when it is not running or while cranking it has a set of weights that spin to regulate fuel and have to reach a minimum of 400 rpm to start backing the fuel off. you may not have the push rod in right either make sure the pump is pumping. take the line loose that feeds the injection pump and have someone crank it over. if you have fuel coming out then it is working. I do not know how many miles are on it but when those engines get some ware on them it is best to just unhook the mechanical pump and replace it with an electrical one from a parts store they are cheap too. once you get fuel to the injection pump you will need to bleed the injector lines. take a wrench and loosen a few of the lines at the head and crank it over till fuel starts coming out and then re tighten the lines. if that does not get u started then you may have a bad injection pump.hope this helps. dodge man may know somethings bout dodges but he dont know the cummins like i do!!!!
