My 2000 Jeep Wrangler's battery gage keeps turning off and the "Check Guages" light turns on when I start it.?
My 2000 Jeep Wrangler's battery gauge keeps turning off and the "Check Gauges" light turns on when I start it.
My mechanic took a look at the alternator and saw it was corroded but is there any other problems that could also be doing this? I am getting a new alternator but some of my "car smart" friends and family think it may not be just the alternator. Does anyone else have an opinion.
Also, the car starts up fine with everything working then about 2 or 3 mins into driving JUST the battery meter turns off and the light to check turns on. and also my speedometer acts up every so often.
The most likely cause is a loose gage connection on the instrument cluster, with the result being an open circuit. Find a wiring diagram for your model and trace the fuel gage wiring to the alternator and ground. I could easily locate it if I were there and so can you. I you feel brave, remove the instrument cluster and make sure the electrical connectors are fully seated. That's my simplest best for now.
