Waffle Maker, 1950's or 1960's?
Am replacing internal wiring on subject appliance. Will also be replacing the 18/2 power cord with a 16/2. Am unable to identify internal wiring other than to say it has a cloth covering instead of plastic, probably because of the extreme heat it generates. What type and gauge wire should I use on this project? And does it matter if I wire from power cord wire #1 directly into the thermostat to one element to second element, back to thermostat and to power cord wire #2 vs to one element, to thermostat, out thermostat to second element, to power cord wire #2. Someone replaced the elements not so long ago, and it is wired according to the first scenario. What I have been able to find shows that it should have been wired according to the second scenario. Thank you.
You need special wire. The "cloth" you see is high temperature fiberglass. You need to replace it with fiberglass covered wire. An electrical repair shop will sell you a few feet. You won't find it at a normal hardware store.
