Can damage to motorcycle paint be caused by a magnetic tank bag?
I'm going on a long trip in a couple weeks. Starting here in southern California and heading east toward Florida, up the east coast to New York or Maine, back west to Washington and down the coast to home. I'm looking into magnetic tank bags at the moment, but noticed on Joe Rocket's website there's a warning saying the magnets have been known to cause damage to the paint with prolonged use and in extremely hot temperatures, all of which I'm planning on doing. I'm curious if anyone has had any problems like this, or are they putting that up there to cover there own ass' on the off chance it does happen? Thanks for any info.
They can cause damage if you slide them around a lot, but there is a layer of foam padding and material between the magnets and the tank. If you remove it by pulling the sides directly off and not by sliding the bag across the tank, it will be ok. Heat wont affect it...I live in Arizona where it gets over 115 in the summer, so I know.
