Mazda London Triathlon tips (1st Time)?
Hey guys,
This is my first ever triathlon and I'm a bit apprehensive about the whole thing, and I'm a bit worried I might be a bit out of place! lol
Have you got any tips for things like traning advice, the transitions and just the race in general. It will be very much appreciated!
I've got things like goggles, swimming cap, running shoes and my wetsuit should be with me in the next few days! Exciting!
At the moment I've got a basic bike which I use to got from a to b, but I am presuming that I will need some sort of road bike and bike trainers, otherwise I might look like a plonker. I'm sorry if im being completely stupid, but ive never done this before, and I want to get it right.
So any advise would be brilliant! many thanks.

I assume that you're alright with the training for each discipline.
Practise the transitions, especially getting out of the wet suit (obvious really, but practise when it's wet!), as you can lose a lot of time in the transitions. Another thing I found was that when jumping off a bike and starting to run, your legs only want to move the distance they do when pedalling. Stretch your legs before and after training, to ensure that you maintain a full range of movement.
Unless you're really serious, you can cycle in your running shoes, and you'll save more time not having to change them than you'll gain by having proper cycling shoes.
When I did the Mazda Triathlon at Blenheim Palace a few years ago there were people on mountain bikes, with off-road tyres, so if you have a normal road bike, you won't be much out of place. A proper racing bike would cost a lot, and you wouldn't gain that much time, also would you use it again? You may be able to hire one, but I've no idea how much that'll cost.
As it's your first one, concentrate on finishing, and if you like it, you can work on improving for the next one.
Good luck, have fun, and I hope this helps.
