Please Help!!! I need tips & techniques for coming to a stop & immediately starting again?
Very, very slow stop & go traffic. I need any tips you have to offer..Stop/Go traffic...As soon as I have to stop then the traffic starts back up. It's nerve racking. Especially on the interstate. Luckily I wear a full bright pink helmet. So I guess they figure "Its a lady...watch out LOL... but seriously.. I need tips. thanks I have a kawasaki Vulcan 900. oh yes & tips on Do you come to a stop at low speeds holding both breaks?
I should have stipulated that the traffic is only moving about 10-18ft at a time.
I guess you guys are not understanding my question especially the retarded santa! We all know what we have to do, and how it sucks to be in this type of traffic, especially in Europe. I'm asking if any veterans out there know of any tricks that I might not be using....Dah
ROB & MIKE thank you...basically its all about balance at low speeds & friction zone. I will practice balancing and incorporate your input.
Well here's an easy way.
Just shut off the bike, keep it in Neutral, and waddle it forward!
I mean if you're really moving THAT SLOW for THAT LONG.....why not, I do it sometimes.
I do it with a 500+lbs bike, it's really not that hard, just start kickin and move it forward and coast a little then slow it down with your feet or slowly tap the front brakes or rears, doesn't matter since your coasting at walking speed, lol.
-------
But if you must keep the bike on, just pull Clutch IN, then rev the bike up 1000-2000RPM's up and down a little bit, then slowly let the Clutch OUT Slowly.
If you need to slow down again, Clutch IN and use brakes or walk the speed down with your feet.
ONLY use your feet if you are crawling, if you are going faster than walking speed, keep your feet up on the pegs and use the brakes and THEN drop your feet at the last second.
But basically you need to find the "friction zone", which point the the clutch engages the motor.
So you if you want to stop, go, stop, go,etc.
You just do what I said above......Clutch In, rev a little, slowly start letting the clutch out while keep the RPM's up a little bit, keep letting the clutch out slowly until you start to move, and if you needa stop again real quickly, clutch in, and use brakes or feet for balance if you're crawling slow enough.
Just keep repeating that.
Same thing as a car, except for the balance part!
-------
A lot of MSF classes also teach a technique where you put the bike in 1st gear, and just start slowly letting the clutch out, right when you hit the friction zone, the bike will begin to move on it's own Without Gas, then you quickly let the clutch back In! Then you quickly but slowly let it back out to the friction zone again, then quickly squeeze it back in.
If you keep doing this correctly and well timed, you'll just keep building a small amount of momentum and keep moving forward at a slow speed.
But it should be noted, this doesn't work on all bikes!
My old 650 won't let me do it! Too heavy and just stalls.
Newer bikes are usually around 300lbs only, and in better condition for this.
