Please Answer My Survey! I Need It For A School Project.?
Hi, I am a high school student conducting a survey for a school project. I need 5 adult black women, (adult meaning 21 or older) 5 adult black men, 3 adult caucasian women, and 3 adult caucasian men to answer the following questions.
When answering, please answer truthfully. Please indicate your gender, race and age when you're finished answering the questions. THANK YOU!
1) How do you feel rap and R&b portrays black women?
2) What are some positive stereotypes of black women?
3)What are some negative stereotypes of black women?
4) Where do you hear these stereotypes of black women?
5)Which stereotypes do youu hear most of?
6)How often do you listen to rap and R&B? Do you enjoy it? If so, why?
7) If you are a black female, how do you feel about the negative stereotypes?
8)Do you think the concept of rap and R&B has changed over the years since it began? If so, how?
9)What images usually come to your mind when you think of rap and/or R&B music videos?
For your demographics- I'm female, white, adult...
1) I don't normally listen to rap and R&B, but the songs I have heard are pretty rude toward/about women in general. One that comes to mind makes excuses for a man who cheats on his woman (girlfriend? wife? I'm not sure.)
2) Positive stereotypes... That they're sexy, or at least they seem to have fewer or at least less-severe body-image issues than white women. They're ok with having a little curve.
3) I've noticed that sitcoms haven't been particularly flattering of women lately- Everyone Loves Raymond, Life According to Jim, My Wife and Kids, King of Queens, etc- the husband is dense, insensitive, and childish, and the wife (no matter her color) is supersmart, tired, and b--chy.
Also there's the idea that black women are more... "out there" than white women. They're more vocal, more opinionated, etc.
4) I see these stereotypes mostly on TV. I avoid those shows. I prefer shows that show more depth to the characters.
5) Good question. Like I said, I don't really watch the shows that rely on stereotypes... although some advertizing does...
6) I don't listen to rap or R&B. I don't really like the rhythm, but mostly it's the words- a) I can't understand the lyrics or b) I don't agree with them... I'm a Country girl....
7) Even being white, I don't like the stereotypes. I'm sure there are black women who fit in the pigeonhole, but I'm equally sure that there are those who don't.
I I think R&B has a little, but rap- I'm not sure.
9) Rap/R&B music videos.... I know this is horrible, but the only image that comes to mind is the song, "I Like Big Butts." What's sad is I don't even know who sings that song!
One black woman I really admire- Jada Smith. She and her husband (Will Smith) really seem to work as a team- they love each other, love their kids... I admire their marriage.
