gaskets & Intake leaks on 3.4L and 3.1L?
Some people have ventures, montanas, impalas, monte carlos, malibus, grand ams and how do you stop intake problems?
You can't really "stop" intake problems, but you can fix them. This is a very common occurence on the 3.4 and 3.1 motors. GM now offers an improved intake gasket and we have used it and it seems to work great. Are you going to do the repair yourself or take it to a garage?
If you are going to do it by yourself, make sure that when you remove the pushrods (they weave through the gasket so they have to come out) that you put them in the order that they came out. There is a difference in the length and if you put them back incorrectly you will have head damage.
Like someone else mentioned you need to make sure you get the torque specs, and don't over torque cause you can snap the bolts off and it will "push" the gasket out and lead to it leaking again.
You also need to change the oil, and usually the spark plugs.
You also need to keep in mind that it is important to properly prepare the sealing surfaces of an intake manifold before installing the gaskets.
Thoroughly clean all of the sealing surfaces, bolt holes, and bolts.
Inspect the surfaces for damage and repair or replace as necessary.
Check the gaskets for any markings or installation instructions that may be stamped on them.
Check the manufacturer's instructions for recommendations on the use of a supplementary sealant.
