4 AWG Wire and Max. Amps?
This doesn't deal with car audio but I figured the car audio guys would know 12 volt wire info.
I have a winch and the OEM wire coming off the winch is 4 AWG (gauge). From what I can find 4 AWG can only support around 150 amps or so. So if the wire is not melting (hehe) it is pulling less then 150 amps through that wire.
I am trying to rig up a dual batteries in my Jeep using a solenoid and need to figure out what size solenoid I need. I am assuming a 200 amp continues duty will be more than enough. All the wiring between the winch and batteries will be 4 gauge.
Thanks
yes 200 will be more then enough, i had a second battery with a 60amp. fuse in between and it never popped the chance of pulling 150 amps with the winch would likely never happen even if it does have 4 gauge wire it is just to reduce the chance of Resistance .
