Do not forget to always buckle your seat belt. The seat belt works to keep you inside the roll cage of the automobile in case of serious accident. Drivers and passengers who remain in the vehicle during an accident have a greater chance of survival than people who are ejected from the vehicle.

Always take time to adjust all mirrors before leaving your driveway. This precaution allows you to see traffic on all sides of your vehicle. Mirrors are not meant just for an occasional check to see what is happening, but should be used at all times so that you are aware of what is happening all around you.

The use of headlights even in the daylight makes your vehicle more visible. Oncoming traffic is more likely to see your vehicle. At night, you are able to see the road ahead as well as any hazards that may be there. Use of headlights increases your safety.

Keep your speed within the speed limit and steady. Try to travel at the speed of surrounding traffic. This will help you to avoid collisions.

Use your turn signals whenever you have to stop in a moving traffic or when you want to switch a lane on the road with traffic proceeding higher than your speed.

Use your horns whenever needed. These horn should be a source of warning. You can also use emergency flares in order to warn others about any vehicle breakdown i. E. Your vehicle is out of order and not working.

Be sure that you observe all warning signs. Stop at traffic signals and stop signs. Yield when told to do so. Observe caution lights and signs. This knowledge is commonly tested for on a driving test.

Watch traffic that is ahead of you. You should be able to anticipate at least 15 to 20 seconds in front of your vehicle. Advanced warning can often be the difference between a narrow escape and an accident with injury or fatality. Staying awake and alert will keep you safe.
