When looking for that special souvenir for loved ones back home, you choice of shops is enormous. There are hundreds of shops located in the country and in all airports. While looking through a few of these shops I noticed some items that I never knew of. These items will be either loved or hated, but will be talked about for a while after you return.

Number one on my list is the Cane Toad Shoulder Bag. An extremely and disturbingly large bag considering it is made entirely from the body of a real genuine Cane toad complete with head and front legs . The Cane Toads amphibian skin is strong and versatile when it has gone through the tanning process and is turned into a fine quality and unique leather. It is now considered a pest and a threat to native wildlife so if you buy a Cane Toad product, you can therefore say that you are protecting the native fauna as well as freaking out your friends in the process!

Second is the Stuffed Saltwater Crocodile Head that is mounted upon a wooden plaque. The mouth of the Crocodile is wide open for all to view his mouth full of teeth. Since these have all deceased in farms, there is an additional AUD 5 wildlife tax, on top of the price.

Then there are the Kangaroo products. There are many available but my favourites are-The Kangaroo Scrotum bottle opener (two fur balls with a bottle opener attached), Kangaroo Leather Scrotum Coin Purse (a single furless ball with a drawstring), and the Kangaroo Paw back scratcher (a Kangaroo leg complete with paw).

Fourth is the Stingray Skin wallets. The leather from these sea creatures is smooth and refined. It is not only eye catching but elegant and guaranteed to keep its shape even after years of use.

Finally there is the Fish Skin baseball cap. These caps are made of parrot fish skins and come in either black or brown.
